Molecular biology of histidine decarboxylase and prostaglandin receptors

Histamine and prostaglandins (PGs) play a variety of physiological roles as autacoids, which function in the vicinity of their sources and maintain local homeostasis in the body. They stimulate target cells by acting on their specific receptors, which are coupled to trimeric G proteins. For the precise understanding of the physiological roles of histamine and PGs, it is necessary to clarify the...

Chapter 6 L - Histidine Decarboxylase A Marker of Histaminergic Neurons

The role of histamine (HA) as a neurotransmitter in the CNS, although proposed a decade ago (Schwartz, 1975), has been only progressively recognized (reviewed by Schwartz et al., 1980, 1982, 1984; Hough and Green, 1984). One of the key pieces of expenmental evidence has been the demonstration that synthesis of the amine in CNS depends on a specific enzyme, L-histidine decarboxylase (HDC) (Schwa...

MOLECULAR MODELING AND NMR STUDY OF HISTDINIE AND ITS ANALOGUES AS , PYRIDOXAL 5 '-PHOSPHATE DEPENDENT HISTIDINE DECARBOXYLASE INHIBITORS

Molecular modeling analysis of charge density and heat of fornation by PM3 method as well as C, H NMR and 2D-NMR measurements of histidine (substrate) and some of its derivatives as histidine decarboxylase inhibitors were performed. It was established that the atom, usually nitrogen, which forms internal aldimine with pyridoxal5 -phosphate (PLP), (coenzyme), has negative and almost equal ...

Histidine decarboxylase in Enterobacteriaceae revisited.

With a modification of Taylor's decarboxylation broth, histidine decarboxylase was detected in Enterobacter aerogenes, Morganella morganii, Raoultella ornithinolytica, and some strains of Citrobacter youngae and Raoultella planticola. This method provides a useful confirmatory test for identification of E. aerogenes strains.

Histidine Decarboxylase in Hyaline Membrane

During the latter part of pregnancy, the foetal rat produces large quantities of histamine which may be concerned with the growth of the foetus (Kahlson and Rosengren, 1959). Kahlson (1960) reported increased formation of histamine by the human foetus as well: recently Davis (1961) suggested that the antagonism of such excess histamine might account for the beneficial effect of an antihistamine...
